Idília Ramos was born in Lagos, a small town in the south of Portugal, known for launching the caravels of the Portuguese Discoveries. She grew up in a challenging family environment, marked by her mother’s psychosis and her father’s frequent absence due to work, in a country still under dictatorship.
From very humble beginnings, she began working at the age of 13 during school holidays. She later moved to Lisbon to study and, the following year, to Porto, taken by her brother. She completed a degree in Human Resources Management and Occupational Psychology through an evening course, always working during the day — becoming the first person in her extended paternal family to obtain a university degree.
She continued her academic journey with a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management in the United Kingdom. Upon returning to Portugal, she was invited to lecture at the university where she had studied.
She worked for two major Portuguese companies as a human resources manager and director and was appointed Director of Human Resources at the age of 28.
At 35, already a mother of two and following the death of her mother, she decided to return with her family to her hometown. There, she created a school from the ground up for children aged from four months to ten years. It was here that she channelled all her passion into building a team of around 40 people, who nominated her twice for Best Team Leader in Portugal, winning one of those awards.
A school where she witnessed around 250 children “being born” into life, becoming balanced young people with above-average knowledge and, most importantly, truly happy — with wings to fly into the next stage.
Married for over 27 years and the mother of three sons, she is passionate about communication and driven by an insatiable curiosity about both worldly and spiritual matters. In a natural and deeply desired way, she welcomed another child at the age of 46.
She loves travelling, discovering new cultures, helping others and working — now a recovering workaholic, committed to healing her inner child and transforming her long-standing defence mechanism of always being busy.
Shortly before her father passed away, she decided to write this book. In it, she shares her autobiography, interwoven with visits to eight temples around the world over a period of twelve months, describing the emotions she felt and the experiences she lived in each place. Her aim is to help and inspire others to overcome difficulties, heal trauma, build resilience and make more conscious choices — creating a happier life and a better world, starting with themselves.
She loves dancing, enjoying a glass of wine and having fun with family and friends. Always smiling, optimistic by nature, she carries a deep conviction that tomorrow can — and will — be better than today.
